Pre-Endorsement Vote

LOCATION:  Neighborhood Congregational Church

340 St. Ann's Drive, Laguna Beach

You must register for this meeting. REGISTER HERE

Important:  This meeting has been changed to an in-person meeting.  We have a new candidate running in our State Senate District 36 and it is critical that as many people as possible hear both candidates prior to voting.  This seat is currently held by a MAGA REP and he has to go.

We will provide a zoom option for those who cannot attend, but we encourage all who can, to attend in-person.

It is that time when LBDC votes for the candidates we would like to support for endorsement at the State Convention, which takes place in February.  We will be voting for U.S. Congressional District 47, State Senate District 36 and State Assembly District 72.

This meeting can only be attended by Members in Good Standing, MIGS, who are the eligible voters.  To be a MIGS you must have paid your 2025 annual dues by November 30 and have attended at least one meeting in 2025 or 2024.

We will hold a separate vote for each race (below) and you will select to support, not support, or abstain.  The 3 races we will be voting on are:

  • Congressional District 47

    • Dave Min

  • State Senate, District 36

    • Rick Foster

    • Chris Duncan

  • State Assembly District 72

    • Chris Kluwe

Our 6 Pre-endorsement Representatives will vote the results of the club’s consensus in January and these votes will be counted at the Californian State Convention in February.

Economic Blackout
Nov

to Dec 2

Economic Blackout

From Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday, we’re asking you not to shop from three major corporations enabling Trump’s fascist agenda.

Our Targets

HOME DEPOT enables ICE terrorism by allowing Trump’s jackboots to violently detain and kidnap workers on its properties.Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

TARGET caved to MAGA backlash by pulling Pride merch off the shelves, and canceled DEI programs that support Black workers and businesses.

AMAZON provides technology to power ICEdeportations while Jeff Bezos spends a fortune kissing up to Trump -- funding both his MAGA agenda and vanity projects like his ballroom.

These aren’t the only companies complicit in Trump's attacks on democracy -- far from it! -- but economic pressure is most effective when it’s concentrated and easy to join in on. We’re focusing our fire on three ubiquitous brands that are among the biggest corporations trying to profit by enabling Trump.

By withholding our support during one of the most important weekends of their year, we’ll make it clear that there’s a price to pay for enabling authoritarianism.

How to take action

To send a strong message, we need not just you, but your family, friends, and community, to commit to supporting mutual aid or small businesses instead of Home Depot, Target, and Amazon next weekend.

Here are three steps to take right now:

  1. Learn more: Make a plan to join the economic blackout from November 27 – December 1. Understand what we’re asking, why we’re doing this, and how to spend your dollars where they’ll do good.

  2. Let us know you’re with us: Pledge to pause shopping at Home Depot, Target, and Amazon. Don’t give any money to the companies undermining democracy. Support local businesses or mutual aid efforts instead.

  3. Spread the word: Use our graphics and customizable social posts to get others involved. Try to triple your impact by getting three other people to join the blackout.

This holiday season, let’s make our dollars count. Join us to tell Home Depot, Target, Amazon, and the whole corporate world: When you support Trump, we don’t support you.

Meet the Candidates - Both candidates will be discussing the issues that brought them to run for office, their campaign and how we can help them win in 2026.

Chris Kluwe, Candidate for CA Assembly District 72

We have a great opportunity to take back our Assembly District.  Chris is the only Democrat running for this seat against a Republican who lost the seat in 2018.

Yes, Chris is a former NFL football player.  But did you know that he graduated UCLA with a double major in Political Science and History?

Rick Foster, Candidate for CA State Senate District 36

We have another great opportunity to take back our State Senate District.  Rick is the only Democrat running for this seat against a MAGA Republican who won the seat in a special election in March, 2025.

Rick is a small business owner, political advocate and graduated Albertus Magnus College with a degree in Political Science.

LBDC TOWNHALL with Congressman Dave Min

From the Big Horrible Bill to ICE raids, the Epstein Files, and the chaos of tariffs and tax breaks—these are just a few of the urgent issues keeping us up at night. Join us for an eye-opening conversation as LBDC Vice Chair Chuck Hasse sits down with Congressman Dave Min to break it all down: how these threats impact our community, what Democrats are doing to push back, and what lies ahead in the fight for justice and accountability.  Have a burning question for Dave? Let us know at the end of the sign-up form—we want to hear from you!

We also welcome Dr. Tim Hartshorn, Executive Director of the South County Crosscultural Council (SCCC).  The SCCC was founded over twenty years ago to support and empower historically marginalized and immigrant communities in Laguna Beach.  Dr. Hartshorn will share with us the impact of the new immigration policies and ICE raids.

Don’t miss this important and timely event on the 18th. See you there!
