JUNE 6 - AP: Democrat Xavier Becerra advanced to the general election for California governor. With higher democrat showing in later ballot counts, Steyer has chance to advance.

MAY 30 - Emerson College Poll conducted May 27-28 has Becerra with a 6 pt lead at 28% Steyer at 22% and Hilton at 21%. If Democrats turnout in the next 4 days, we could send two Democrats to the November Election.

May 28 - Here is a summary of the last polls in May. Becerra has maintained a slim lead on average. Turnout will ultimately determine who advances to the top two.

MAY 27 - The latest Kreate Strategies poll shows Becerra at 27%, Hilton at 26% and Steyer at 20%. Undecided still at 7% six days before Primary day

May 22 - The California Democratic Party (CADEM) released the final tracking poll from the California VOTER Index on the California Governor’s race. This 1,200 sample tracking survey was conducted by EVITARUS Research from May 14-16. Topline survey results:

  • Steve Hilton (R) – 22%

  • Xavier Becerra (D) – 21%

  • Tom Steyer (D) – 15%

  • Chad Bianco (R) -10%

  • Katie Porter (D) – 7%

  • Matt Mahan (D) – 4%

  • Antonio Villaraigosa (D) – 1%

  • Tony Thurmond (D) – 1%

  • Betty Yee (D) – <1%

  • Eric Swalwell (D) – <1%

Becerra currently maintains the broadest coalition of any candidate for Governor with 35% of Democrats – a 6-point increase from May 4th – and 19% of Independents.

Aside from Xavier Becerra and Tom Steyer, no other Democratic candidate – including Katie Porter, Matt Mahan, Antonio Villariagosa and Tony Thurmond – holds more than single digit support with two weeks until Election Day.

MAY 5 - 61 Candidates for Governor — Your Vote Has Never Mattered More

You read that right: 61 candidates are on the June primary ballot for Governor of California. In a field this crowded, every single vote counts — and where your vote goes matters enormously.

Don't Waste Your Vote on Suspended Campaigns

Two major Democratic candidates — Rep. Eric Swalwell and Betty Yee — have suspended their campaigns for California Governor. However, because the official filing deadline had already passed, both names will still appear on the June 2 ballot. A vote for either of them is a vote that cannot help elect a viable Democrat in November. Don't let your vote go to waste.

Understanding California's Jungle Primary — and Why It's Dangerous

California uses a "top-two" primary system, also known as the jungle primary. Here's what that means: the two candidates with the most votes advance to the November general election — regardless of party. In a 61-person field, the Democratic vote could easily be split so many ways that two Republicans advance to November, shutting Democrats out of the general election entirely. This is not hypothetical — it has happened before. Choose wisely.

What's at Stake and What Comes Next

The June 2 primary is four weeks away. Ballots began hitting mailboxes yesterday, May 4th. Watch the polls and today's debate closely — the landscape is shifting and an informed vote is a powerful vote.

Now is the time to get informed, get active, and vote strategically. The primary is the election. Don't sit this one out.

APRIL 18 - Latest GS Survey Memo (April 14–18) 800 person poll, shows (R) Steve Hilton leading the field at 20%, with (D) Xavier Becerra and (D) Tom Steyer tied for second at 15%. (R) Chad Bianco at 14%, (D) Katie Porter at 13% and 10% still undecided. Politico.com

APRIL 17 - The race for California's next governor just got a lot more complicated — and a lot more urgent — for Democrats.

Swalwell Out, Field in Flux

Rep. Eric Swalwell suspended his campaign for California governor following explosive allegations of sexual assault and misconduct. Swalwell denied the allegations but acknowledged "mistakes in judgment." He resigned from Congress shortly after.

The timing could not be worse. Because the official candidate filing deadline had already passed, Swalwell's name will still appear on the June 2 primary ballot, and early mail ballots begin going out to voters on May 4.

The Danger of California's Top-Two Primary

Here's what every Democrat needs to understand: under California's voting system, the top two vote-getters in the primary advance to the November general election regardless of party. If the primary were held today, that could mean two Republicans — each pulling around 14–17% — facing each other in the fall, with no Democrat on the November ballot at all.

What's at Stake and What Comes Next

The June 2 primary is less than seven weeks away. With mail ballots dropping in just over two weeks, the window for Democrats to coalesce is closing fast. Watch the April 22 debate closely — it will be the first major face-off since Swalwell's departure and could reshape the race significantly.

Now is the time to get informed, get active, and make sure your voice is heard in the primary.

APRIL 15 - Latest Emerson College poll (April 14–15) 1,000 likely primary voters, shows (R) Steve Hilton leading the field at 17%, with (R)Chad Bianco and (D) Tom Steyer tied at 14%. (D) Xavier Becerra and (D) Katie Porter are each at 10%, with a striking 23% still undecided. Emerson Polling
